There are 2 vacancies on the School Governing Body for a Parent Governor. The term of office is for up to 4 years.
THERE IS A VACANCY ON THE GOVERNING BODY FOR A SUPPORT STAFF (NON TEACHING) GOVERNOR
St Ann’s has a highly committed Governing Body that monitors the work of the school, providing support and challenge in equal measures, so that the school continues to improve and secure the best possible outcomes for all of our young people. The Governing Body meets 6 times a year in the evening) and in addition Governors can serve on a Governing Body Committee which meet termly during the school day Dates are set well in advance and expenses (e.g. child care costs) are payable.
Whilst the Governing Body are particularly interested in one of the positions being filled by a parent of a student in the younger year groups to assist continuity of membership, both positions are open to all parents . The school already has a rich and diverse skill set within the Governing Body and we are seeking a Parent/carer with a genuine interest in driving school improvement and supporting students and their families. This is what really motivates successful GBs and ours is no exception.
Former Parent Governor Kirstie Ferrett encourages current St Ann’s parents/carers to put themselves forward
‘I sat on the Governing Body at St Anns for 10 years, 8 of which was whilst my daughter was a student there. I have now had to step down but believe that it’s incredibly important that another parents/carer continues to represent the students and families that go to St Ann’s. The ethos of the school states they have a “deep commitment to work alongside parents, carers and families” and they know we are an important part of the students life long learning. To have a parent of a student who is currently attending the school allows a parental voice to be heard and taken into account when the governing body makes decisions.
From experience the governing body have always respected what I have to say and helped me to attend meetings whilst taking my care responsibilities into account. Other members of the Governing Body are always happy to support you and to explain things further if needed as well.
There is a definite feeling of all working together for the continued “outstanding” education our young people need and deserve.’
You will receive full induction, training and support in the role. Attached is a link to a short animated video produced by the National Governors association on the role of a Governor:

For further details regarding the role please e-mail Mike Herlihy, Clerk to the Governing Body at mike.herlihy@hotmail.co.uk. Expressions of interest to be sent to Mike by 10am on Monday 7th November.
Please do seriously consider whether you could support the school in this way. Remember that as a member of the Governing Body you can help effect real change and enhance the life chances of all our young people.
