Susan Kumba Co-Opted Governor

I have been a Governor at St Ann’s since January 2007, initially as a Parent Governor and more recently as a Co-opted Governor. My daughter was a pupil at the school from May 2006 until July 2013 when she left to embark on a three year post 19 specialist FE course at Treloar’s.

St Ann’s has a large staff team and I am particularly interested in personnel issues. I have sat on many different panels including Headteacher Performance Management panels, recruitment panels and appeal panels.

I particularly enjoy the energy of St Ann’s and its positive ‘can do’ ethos. This was noted during the Level 2 Unicef Rights Respecting School assessment visit last February. The Governing Body is very proud that St Ann’s achieved this coveted award because it reflects governors’ experience of the school, as a community where the rights of each young person to learn, to have a voice, to make choices, to feel safe, and to have friends, are truly respected.

I have recently completed a BA Hons degree in Business Studies, specialising in Leadership and Management, which further equips me to ensure that St Ann’s continues to evolve as a learning community which meets the diverse and complex needs of all of its students.
